Ft. Wayne Is Green

I don’t mean to duplicate some of my posts here, but a nearby city of 250K+ was given an honorable mention for being a “green” city.

Fort Wayne Indiana is just 20 minutes south of our little town and has been previously known as a very industrialized city full of large manufacturing plants, wasteful production companies and three-rivers that was once dumping grounds for water waste.

At the 75th annual U.S. Conference of Mayors, two cities were singled out for their efforts and Fort Wayne landed an honorable mention.

Could you take your city “green”?

G3 Initiative: Gonink Goes Green

Friday, June 29th, 2007

It’s all over the nightly news, your local papers and of course the Internet - living more “green” in our world. Far be it from me to aspire to be a bandwagon jumper, but being one in this case is fine with me. And being “green” at our business seems way to fitting.

For one we use paper and according to the Print Design and Environmental Responsibility PDF, paper production is the third largest use of fossil fuels worldwide and the single largest industrial use of water per pound of finished product. Quite frankly we no longer want to be part of that contribution, so we’re already looking into alternatives to our paper purchases and paper mills.

Secondly, our business is located in a small town where the environment is precious to everyone. We have a lot of large lakes and state parks near our business and many people still enjoy the “country-life” of open fields, trees, big green yards and wildlife. Speaking of our town, it only seems fitting that we mention a large portion of our community lives in Green Township.

To take it a step further, we can correlate our new way of thinking with our town’s mascot - Oscar the turtle. He’s been the centerpiece of our town’s history, folklore and festival for over 50 years now. A big green turtle living in a ‘green’ town is just too perfect.

And if all of that isn’t enough for you, here is the major list of the 2007 G3 Initiative:

  • Purchase and use the highest PCW (Post Consumer Waste) paper available.
  • Ensure that the above paper mills are SFI (Sustainable Forest Initiative) and/or FSC (Forest Stewardship Council).
  • Do not use paper(s) that are chlorine bleached.
  • When collaborating with clients, associates and/or peers we will do so electronically with PDF’s and other electronic documents.
  • Within 2 years donate a portion of annual profits to a charity involved in preserving the earth.

We’ve even taken the time to develop a little logo to go along with our press releases, brochures and other information.
Have we missed something? Do you have an idea for us? We’d love to hear from you!
